Paris Saint Germain

  • Javier Pastore could be in line for a start here, although youngsters Giovani Lo Celso and Christopher Nkunku are also options for Emery in central midfield.
  • Julian Draxler will replace Neymar on the left after the latter was sent off against Marseille last weekend.
  • Thiago Motta has been playing through the pain with a knee injury and won’t be risked against Nice on Friday.
  • Thomas Meunier is suffering from muscular pains and a late decision will be made on his involvement here.

Nice

  • Wesley Sneijder could start here after impressing from the bench on Sunday.
  • Maxime Le Marchand is also pushing for a recall after a poor outing from Barcelona loanee Marlon last time out.
  • Jean Michael Seri faces a month on the sidelines, which should give Remi Walter the chance to impress against the Ligue 1 leaders on Friday.

Prediction

  • This fixture was one of Ligue 1’s showpiece events last season but it would be foolish to expect the pulsating football of 2016-17 given Nice’s struggles this season.
  • Unai Emery has a tough job here in terms of team selection in picking Neymar’s replacement, but the result should be a formality, even with the world’s most expensive player absent.

Team News

Chelsea

  • Antonio Conte will make changes to his usual starting XI and could even hand some of the young players a chance to impress.
  • Daniel Drinkwater, Victor Moses and N’Golo Kante are all sidelined for the home side on Wednesday.

Everton

  • Everton sacked Ronald Koeman on Wednesday so it remains to be seen whether their interim head coach will make wholesale changes to the side that will face Chelsea on Wednesday.
  • Idrissa Gueye is suspended after being sent off in Everton’s 5-2 home defeat to Arsenal on Sunday. With Morgan Schneiderlin also a doubt, the away side could be short of defensive midfielders at Stamford Bridge.
  • James McCarthy has not featured for Everton this season but is close to full fitness and could get some minutes on the pitch here.

Prediction

  • Chelsea were a little fortunate to run out 4-2 winners against Watford on Saturday and Antonio Conte will hope that result will get the defending Premier League champions back on track.
  • Everton have been abysmal this season and made the decision to sack Ronald Koeman on Monday. It remains to be seen what impact that decision will have on their performance on Wednesday.
  • The Merseysiders have already conceded three goals against Tottenham, four versus Manchester United and five against Arsenal this season – is another rout on the cards here?
