Europa Match Preview : Zorya vs Manchester United

Manchester United have not won successive games in all competitions since September and their failure to put a run of wins together is undermining all of their good performances.

They only need to avoid defeat here to qualify for the next stage of the competition and can even lose and go through if Feyenoord fail to beat Fenerbahce.

Zorya are fourth and cannot improve on their position. They have failed to win any of their last six in all competitions but have drawn each of their two home matches in the competitions thus far.

United are unbeaten in seven matches against Ukrainian opposition but this has all the hallmarks of a scrappy game. United have lost each of their last five away matches in the Europa League, which should give some hope to Zorya. Place you bet on

Team News

Zorya – Eduard Sobol is suspended after being sent off against Fenerbahce last time out in the Europa League. Grygory Yarmash or Artem Sukhotsky could deputise in his absence at left-back.

The home side also look set to be without their captain, Mykyta Kamenyuka. Evgeniy Opanasenko should continue to fill in at right-back.

Manchester United – Jose Mourinho has plenty to ponder ahead of Thursday’s trip to Ukraine for their final Europa League group stage match against Zorya.

United will progress through to the next stage of the competition if they avoid defeat, but Mourinho could ring the changes with one eye on their home clash with Tottenham on Sunday.

Eric Bailly was an unused substitute during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Everton at the weekend but is expected to make a return to action for the first time since he picked up a knee injury in their 4-0 defeat to Chelsea on October 23.

It remains to be seen whether he will start on Thursday or simply get some minutes from the bench. Making your return from a knee injury in Ukraine in December is far from ideal, but Mourinho needs his best defender back at full speed with Tottenham in mind.

Michael Carrick, Matteo Darmian, Antonio Valencia, Memphis and Morgan Schneiderlin have not been included in the squad that has travelled to Ukraine. Bastian Schweinsteiger wasn’t included in their Europa League squad and is ineligbile. Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling are still injured.

With Valencia and Darmian not available, Timothy Fosu-Mensah could start at right-back to make his first start since facing the same opposition in the reverse fixture back in September.

Wayne Rooney is set to return to the team after missing the trip to Everton through suspension, which could see either Paul Pogba or Zlatan Ibrahimovic rested on Thursday. Marouane Fellaini cost United all three points on Sunday but could even start in midweek.
