The side managed by Nigel Clough – a former Red – currently sit 20th in the second tier after 4 matches. Burton booked their spot in the second round earlier this month with a 3-2 extra time win over League One side Bury.
Clough said of the occasion: “This is a brilliant week for the club, not a crucial week.”
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side head into the match on the backof a surprise 2-0 defeat to Burnley on Saturday. The Reds are likely to rest a number of players from the weekend.
“We will make changes but not big changes, itis not really likely we change seven or eight positions,” Klopp said.
Joel Matip, Emre Can and Marko Grujic are expected to feature, while striker Divock Origi is in line for his first start of the season.
Simon Mignolet should continue in goal, despite his poor start to the season. Youngsters Kevin Stewart and Connor Randall could get some game time, but Joe Gomez, Mamadou Sakho and Sheyi Ojo remain out.
Klopp is unlikely to risk Lucas Leiva or Sadio Mane, who could both have a chance of returning on the weekend.
As for the hosts, Burton defender John Mousinho is likely to miss out with a hamstring injury, while John Brayford is cup tied. Kyle McFadzean (head) and Tom Flanagan (thigh) are slight doubts for the match.
