Match Preview : Southampton vs Tottenham

A win over Bournemouth at the weekend means Southampton have lost only one of their last six Premier League games. Claude Puel’s side have lost just once on home turf in England’s top tier this term as they look to haul themselves closer to Manchester United.

Victory at Burnley’s expense means Tottenham have won three of their last four as they look to get back on track in the race to secure a top-4 finish.

Spurs have lost just one of their last six league meetings with Saints and haven’t lost at St. Mary’s since the south coast side’s return to the Premier League.

While Spurs’ good record in Southampton is likely to continue, a draw is on the cards.

Team News

Southampton – Jeremy Pied, Matt Targett, Jake Hesketh and Charlie Austin are all ruled out for Southampton.

Florin Gardos is still some way short of match fitness and is ruled out here, while Alex McCarthy is a doubt.

Jose Fonte and Steven Davis could come into the side that secured a 3-1 win at Bournemouth on Sunday.

Tottenham – Erik Lamela is hoping to have overcome a hip problem in time to feature in some capacity at St. Mary’s.

Vincent Janssen, Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld are all doubts, though the latter pair may start in Southampton.

Mauricio Pochettino could name a similar looking XI to the one that overcame Burnley at the weekend, though Moussa Sissoko, Heung-min Son and Eric Dier are all pushing for starts.
