Swaziland – Nigeria Betting Preview

After a return from international exile, the weapon of mass destruction would be hoping to lead Sunday Oliseh’s men to victory against the minnows

Nigeria take on hosts Swaziland  in Lobamba on Friday as coach Sunday Oliseh seeks a positive result in order to assure of reaching the next round of qualifiers for 2018 Fifa World Cup Russia.

The former international midfielder has lost just a match in four since taking over from Stephen Keshi in mid-year.

Though the Super Eagles are expected to win comfortably at the Somhlolo National Stadium, they must be wary of the southern Africans who dispatched Djibouti 8-1 on aggregate to reach this stage.

And knowing what is at stake, coach Harris Bulunga believes team unity can help his men upstage the ‘dangerous’ Nigerian side.

“We are facing one of the superpowers of African football so we cannot get carried away, go out and attack even though we are playing at home,” said Bulunga.

“We need to respect the Nigerian team because they are made up of mostly professional players who we watch on television, we know what they are all about and how dangerous they can be, so we need to be careful.

“We don’t have a lot of stars but for us it is all about team work. We have got a very united team that has been together for a long time.

“They fight for each other. So it is the unity in us that has helped us achieve what we have achieved recently,” he concluded.

Attention will be firmly on Obafemi Martins who stages a return to the Nigerian team after announcing his international retirement on December 4, 2014 owing to lack of international games.

The 31-year-old who last played in a World Cup qualifier under Keshi in 2013 has been in fine form for MLS side Seattle Sounders with 15 goals so far in the American topflight.

Having netted 18 times in 39 appearances for the country, he would be hoping to stage a goal scoring comeback in Lobamba, as he is expected to spearhead Super Eagles attack alongside Watford’s hotshot Odion Ighalo.

Nigeria will also be able to count on the service of newly invited youngster Kelechi Iheanacho as they hope to break down the hosts.

Swaziland are ranked 130th by Fifa while the Super Eagles are ranked 59th.

Match Preview: Belgium Vs Italy

Two countries with aspirations of claiming glory at the European Championship next summer will meet on Friday evening, as Belgium take on Italy in Brussels.

The Red Devils are currently the top-ranked team in world football, but they have some way to go to match the success of their esteemed visitors.

Belgium

Marc Wilmots looks on as his Belgium side play Colombia on November 14, 2013.

The rise of Belgium on the international stage has been one of the big stories in recent years, and their current crop of players are being heralded as the greatest in their history.

They have now climbed all the way to the top of the FIFA rankings, leaving world champions Germany and Lionel Messi‘s Argentina trailing in their wake.

Belgium’s future didn’t look so bright four years ago, when they failed to qualify for Euro 2012, but the appointment of Marc Wilmots as manager sparked an upturn in form as they began their quest to reach the 2014 World Cup.

The Red Devils made light work of their qualifying group and went unbeaten as they made it to their first World Cup in 12 years, eventually being knocked out in the last eight by losing finalists Argentina.

It was a similar story in their Euro 2016 qualifying group as they sealed first place, although they did suffer a 1-0 defeat against a Gareth Bale-inspired Wales in June.

They have rolled off four straight wins since that defeat in Cardiff, but the hard work will start now for Wilmots and his players, as they go into next summer’s championship in the rare position of being one of the favourites.

Italy

Italy's coach Antonio Conte follows the action during the UEFA Euro 2016 Group H qualifying football match Norway vs Italy on September 9, 2014

Another of the frontrunners to win next summer’s tournament are Italy, who booked their ticket to France by cruising through their qualifying group unbeaten.

They eventually finished four points clear of nearest challengers Croatia, but they have been harshly criticised for their performances after scoring just 16 goals in their 10 group games.

A number of their star players have also come under fire, including veteran midfielder Andrea Pirlo, who has not been called up to the latest squad.

Antonio Conte has also hinted that he may not take the former Juventus man to next year’s finals, with his decision to move to American to play for New York City FC a major factor.

Despite Pirlo’s absence, the Italians have a number of experienced players in their side, with captain Gianluigi Buffon set to win his 153rd international cap.

The Azzurri will also be hoping to end a 48-year wait for European glory, having finished runners-up to Spain in the previous tournament three years ago.

Russia's defender and captain Sergey Ignashevich watches Belgium's forward Romelu Lukaku control the ball during the Group H football match between Belgium and Russia at The Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on June 22, 2014

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has been forced to withdraw from the Belgium squad after picking up an injury in training last week, while Jordan Lukaku is also ruled out.

Captain Vincent Kompany is expected to play despite sitting out training on Tuesday, and Eden Hazard should start in the attack, despite his poor form at club level.

Meanwhile, Stefano Okaka, Claudio Marchisio and Alessio Cerci have all returned to the Italy set-up, with midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini also given a chance to impress after his recent exploits at Bologna.

The Azzurri also have two of Europe’s most in-form strikers in their squad, with Southampton’s Graziano Pelle and Sampdoria forward Eder expected to lead the line.

Belgium possible starting lineup:
Courtois, Alderweireld, Kompany, Vermaelen, Vertonghen, Nainggolan, Witsel, Dembele, De Bruyne, Hazard, Lukaku

Italy possible starting lineup:
Buffon, Darmian, Bonucci, Chiellini, De Sciglio, Parolo, Montolivo, Marchisio, Candreva, Eder, Pelle

Head To Head

Italy have an impressive record against Belgium and they have lost only one of the previous eight meetings between the two countries.

It was the Azzurri who won the last time they played, as two goals from Antonio Di Natale helped them on their way to a 3-1 victory in Florence.

Spain v England, International Friendly Betting Preview

         vs

Spain came through Euro 2016 qualifying with nine wins and one defeat. They finished five points clear of Slovakia and eight ahead of Ukraine to ensure they will defend their Euro title in the finals in France next year. Results in friendly internationals over the last 12 months or so have been less than convincing. Since the dismal showing in the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil the Spanish were beaten 1-0 in France and 1-0 at home to Germany at the end of last year and in 2015 they lost 2-0 away to the Netherlands in March and in their most recent friendly they won 2-1 at home to Costa Rica.

Watch the media for news of any withdrawals or injury updates to the squad named by Vicente del Bosque.

Spain Squad: Iker Casillas, David De Gea, Sergio Rico

Juanfran, Mario Gaspar, Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos, Marc Bartra, Jordi Alba, Cesar Azpilicueta.

Mikel San Jose, Koke, Sergio Busquets, Cesc Fabregas, Santi Cazorla, Isco, Andres Iniesta, Thiago, Nolito.

Pedro, Juan Mata, Paco Alcacer, Alvaro Morata, Diego Costa

England’s record in qualifying for Euro 2016 was even more impressive as they coasted through their group with ten straight wins to finish nine points clear of runners up Switzerland. Like Spain, Roy Hodgson’s side also had a poor 2014 World Cup finals but they are undefeated since then. Recent friendly international results comprise of four draws and two wins. Three of those friendly matches were away fixtures and England won 3-1 against the Scots and drew 1-1 in Italy and 0-0 against the Irish in Dublin.

Roy Hodgson named the following squad although James Milner is reportedly doubtful.

England squad:

Butland, Hart, Heaton

Bertrand, Cahill, Clyne, Gibbs, Jones, Smalling, Stones, Walker;

Alli, Barkley, Carrick, Delph, Dier, Lallana, Milner, Shelvey

match preview of chelsae vs arsenal

Cesc Fabregas is confident Chelsea can kickstart their Barclays Premier League title defence with victory against his former club Arsenal on Sunday.

Spain midfielder Fabregas and champions Chelsea have suffered back-to-back league defeats to Crystal Palace and Everton, meaning they have taken just four points from five matches this season, equalling the record for the worst start from defending BPL champions.

But Fabregas set up Diego Costa’s goal before scoring the fourth himself in the 4-0 UEFA Champions League win over Maccabi Tel Aviv on Wednesday, and the former Barcelona man is relishing the chance to arrest Chelsea’s dip in domestic form when they meet the Gunners.

“My confidence is always high, that is not a problem, but sometimes things don’t go well for you for many reasons,” he said.

“We didn’t start the season well and when you see Chelsea so far down the table you have to check twice to make sure this is happening. We have a big game again on Saturday so we must not rest.

“We have to win. It is a London derby, we know Arsenal are a quality team, they play top football and it will be tough but we want to win.”

Arsenal, meanwhile, will want to pick up where they left off in the Barclays Premier League after their 2-1 Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb, which also saw Olivier Giroud sent off.

Arsene Wenger made six changes to the starting line-up that comfortably beat Stoke City last week when they faced Zagreb in Croatia, but midfielder Mikel Arteta said squad rotation is not to blame for the defeat.

“We had the chances but we didn’t take them,” he said. “The manager tried to create the best balance for the game but we didn’t make the most of it.”

Chelsea have a number of injury concerns ahead of Saturday, with Jose Mourinho ruling out Willian after he was forced off with a hamstring problem against Maccabi.

Pedro (thigh) and Thibaut Courtois (knee) are also out, while Radamel Falcao (also knee) is a doubt.

Arsenal are still without Jack Wilshere (leg), Tomas Rosicky and Danny Welbeck (both knee), but Theo Walcott will be vying for a starting spot up-front after scoring as a substitute against Zagreb.

Per Mertesacker could also return to action, having begun training again after being sidelined through illness.

Chelsea carry an impressive record heading into Saturday’s match, having won four and drawn three of their last seven league meetings with Arsenal.

But Wenger sealed his first win in 14 attempts over Mourinho in last month’s 1-0 FA Community Shield victory at Wembley Stadium.

Chelsea (from): Begovic, Blackman, Azpilicueta, Cahill, Djilobodji, Ivanovic, Rahman, Terry, Zouma, Fabregas, Hazard, Loftus-Cheek, Matic, Mikel, Oscar, Ramires, Traore, Costa, Falcao, Kenedy, Remy.

Arsenal (from): Cech, Ospina, Bellerin, Chambers, Debuchy, Gabriel, Gibbs, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Monreal, Arteta, Cazorla, Coquelin, Flamini, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ozil, Ramsey, Campbell, Giroud, Sanchez, Walcott.
